ENVIRONMENTAL VALUES:
Larkas & Laine Architects Ltd
is a member of the recently established Finnish Green Building Council (FiGBC). FiGBC’s mission is to take part in developing and initializing the procedures, tools and classification systems for sustainable development, as well as to represent Finnish operators in the international Green Building Council network.
We consider environmental values as an important and significant part of our working culture. Therefore, we are the first Finnish architectural company to join the WWF Green Office network, and thus commited to obeying and improving sustainable and environmentally friendly working habits. We have established an internal Green Office committee to research the best means for us to act and work in a beneficial manner in terms of sustaining energy and preserving natural resources. The committee is also responsible for reporting and guiding the staff about above-mentioned issues. We have composed an environment program that, among other things, contains the annual follow-up of paper and energy consumption and material recycling.
We are continuously keeping an eye on the international and local developments and improvements in the field. We are also training our staff to adopt the principles of sustainable development in projects both small and large, whether it is city planning or real estate development. Our aim is to find the best solution possible, where the environmental values have also been taken into account.
One of our current projects, Skanska headquarters in Helsinki, is the first Finnish development to apply for a LEED Platinum Class certification.
